Process mining
starts with people.

Event logs don't fall out of the sky. Somebody decides what gets recorded, and somebody's work is what gets recorded.

I research where event logs come from, why the insights drawn from them so often stall before anything changes, and who gets a say in how their work is made visible.

What I work on

The parts of process mining that aren't the algorithm.

Most of the difficulty in a process mining project sits before and after the analysis: getting to a usable event log, and getting an organisation to act on what the log shows. Both are human problems as much as technical ones, and that's where my research lives.

Where event logs
come from

Extraction eats most of the effort in a process mining project and almost none of the literature. Who does that work, what they decide along the way, and how far large language models can now take it.

Why insights stall

An insight is not an improvement. I study the gap between the two; the actions a finding actually triggers, the obstacles in the way, and the reasons process mining initiatives quietly end.

Modelling and visualisation

How process models are drawn, read, and misread; what modelling tools do and don't tell you about the problems in your own diagram.

Who gets a say

Transparency about work is built from decisions, and the people whose work is being made visible (the process minees) are rarely part of them. In recent work weParticipatory Process Mining · 2026Vinicius Stein Dani, Iris Beerepoot, Thomas Grisold, Hajo A. Reijers, and Adela del-Río-Ortega argue they should be.
